In memory of
April Dawn Hellman (nee: Whiting)
August 06, 1985 - September 27, 2019 - Age 34

HELLMAN (nee: Whiting)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of April Dawn Hellman on Friday, September 27, 2019, at the age of 34 years. April leaves to cherish her memory her best friend and husband Troy Hellman and her beautiful daughters Patience and Zarrah all of Richmound; her parents Lynn (Denny) Oakley and Brent Whiting (Rhonda Crittenden); one brother Jay Lentz (Shauna Jewer) and one sister Tara Whiting (Chad Leckie); her mother-in-law Debbie Hellman; her brother-in-law Todd (Meghan) Hellman; her grandmother Helen Mitchell and grandfather Gordon Lentz as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandmother Fran Lentz and grandfather Wilf Mitchell; father-in-law Ron Hellman. On August 6, 1985, the world was blessed with a little bundle of joy named April Dawn Whiting. April grew up in Medicine Hat where she attended Vincent Massey Elementary School and then Crescent Heights High School, where she graduated in 2003. April met her best friend Troy in 2008 when she moved to Richmound to be near her siblings Jason and Tara. This was obviously her place to be, as they fell in love quickly and started their family when Patience who was born in 2009. They were married on May 29, 2010 and this was the beginning of another branch of the Hellman Family. Two years later, in 2011 Zarrah was born to complete their family. Of all things in April’s life her family and girls were her greatest joy, and you couldn’t spend ten minutes with her without the camera coming out and the posing for pictures began. She also loved gardening and animals, and if she had it her way she would have taken home every animal from all shelters. April was always involved in her girls activities, and volunteered with figure skating, coaching baseball and 4H. She was a hockey Mom as well, and at first reminded Troy that if it was going to be hockey, then that would have to be “his” thing. By the end of the first period of the first game she was hooked. She poured her heart into that as well, worked the concession, sold raffle tickets and helped with anything that was needed during the games or tournaments. We as her family will remember her for so many things. She was outgoing, and would have a conversation with anyone about almost anything; she was inquisitive and compassionate, which shone through when she helped take care of her father-in-law when he became ill. Last but not least, we will remember her for her laugh, that loud boisterous laugh that was contagious when you heard it. April will truly be missed by her family and friends … RIP April, until we meet again. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Monday, October 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Please wear bright colors in honor of April’s memory. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Message from Dani Lanigan October 06, 2019

I’ve known April since we were 14. We lived around the corner from each other when I moved to Medicine Hat. We went to school together, remained friends afterward. I have two daughters who were born within weeks/months of Patience and Zarrah. We were awkward teens, together. We were confused adults together. We carried our babies together and most recently, obsessed over plants together. We kept trying to find time to get together with our girls and life kept interrupting those plans. Oh how I wish we had made that happen. I will always remember to make a stronger effort, because you never know.

The hole left in my heart is minor to that of her husband and children, her sibling and in-laws, her parents. To them, I offer my deepest condolences. May you be blessed with the memory of April and that energy of love and happiness, she sprinkled everywhere she went.
