1942 - LAVERNE RETELBACH - 2019
After a swift battle with cancer, Laverne Retelbach slipped away peacefully on April 28, 2019. Laverne was predeceased by his parents Albert and Augusta Retelbach. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Carol-Lyn Retelbach, Laurel (Steve Van Dam) and Jodi (Bruce MacKay); his grandchildren Aidan, Megan, Josh (Van Dam); Norah and Noelle (MacKay); the mother of his children Dorothy Bender; his sister Sheila (Ken) Chisholm and their family. Laverne was blessed to have spent his last years with his loving and supportive companion Verba Hallahan. A proud and dedicated Hilda farmer, Laverne carried farming and the land in his blood until the end. He played slowpitch with the Hilda Bears and his Redcliff CB Radio Club call sign was “Alberta Bobcat”. After moving to Medicine Hat, many of his days were spent catching up on current news with his friends and neighbors at Levinson’s Music and the Meadowlark Village Club House. Country music and dancing was a true and deep passion which brought him great joy. Laverne was well known for his kind, charismatic personality and quick smile. He always had a witty comment at the ready. At his request, a private family time of remembrance will be held. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
