In memory of
Matthew 'Matty' James Taylor Wagner
June 14, 1978 - April 27, 2018 - Age 39

Matthew “Matty” James Taylor Wagner, beloved son of Pam and Bob Wagner, and Patty and Jim Taylor, passed away peacefully Friday April 27, 2018, at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto at the age of 39 years. Matthew was born June 14, 1978 in Calgary and moved to Medicine Hat before he was 2. Matthew was raised spending many weekends and summers at the family cabin near the Cypress Hills, instilling a life long love for the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. Matthew was a talented musician from an early age, writing his first song at age 4. He found his calling in sharing his musical gifts with those around him as a teacher, composer, performer, and production engineer. Following his dream, Matthew and his band moved to Toronto. The highlight of this time was signing a record deal with EMI and touring major rock concerts in Germany and Austria on the same bill as “Metallica” and “Rage Against the Machine”. Matthew lived his dream. With his bands and other groups, he wrote and produced many albums and helped launch careers of many artists. Matthew’s music was his passion, which inspired artists around him to follow their dreams unapologetically and with deep conviction. His musical talent was an inspiration to those around him and he worked generously and tirelessly to help others achieve their artistic goals. Matthew leaves to cherish his memory, his parents Pam and Bob Wagner, Patty and Jim Taylor; as well as sisters, Zenah Laurie El-Rafih (Taylor), Jaime (Michael) Taylor, Thelea Wagner, Talicia (Blake Graham) Wagner, Talva Jacobson, Dana Marcano; his brothers, Joel (Kelsey) Wagner, Mitch (Marty Cline) Erickson, and Trevor (Glenda) Erickson. He also leaves adored nieces and nephews, Tony, Brian, Matthew, Asiyah, Ethan, Julien, Svea, Ari, Barakat, Cleo, Greta and Violet, and his loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Matthews music and vibrant personality will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the medical team at Mount Sinai ICU, for their compassion and support during this difficult time. A service will be held in Matthew’s honour at the PATTISON CHAPEL (Medicine Hat, AB) on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. with Linda Wagner officiating. Matty’s final gift to the world was his beautiful heart, which now beats in someone else. Please honor his memory by signing your own donor card. Matty entered our lives when he moved to Toronto and has made a huge impact on us ever since. We will forever remember his musical genius and passion, all of the good times we shared with him jamming or hanging in the studio, but most of all, his love for his family. We are blessed to be able to still hear his music and his voice. Our thoughts are with his family and all of his friends during this difficult time.

Matt was the trunk of an extreme power. Courageous love was the root of his bearing the gift and burden of his genius. His way for loving others inspired growth, strength, celebration, vision, and awe. His music was inseparable from his person, so be in his presence was an honour. Joel, I love you, and know that my heart and thoughts are with you in the memory of your brother. For you, Bob, Pam and the family, I wish peace in the procession of grief. Matthew was a real and rare beauty who helped carve many of our own histories. His inspiration lives.
