In memory of
Wayne Gilbertson
February 25, 1942 - November 20, 2021 - Age 79

Wayne Neil Gilbertson, born February 25, 1942, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the age of 79 years, beloved husband of Diane Gilbertson of Bow Island. He also leaves to cherish his memory their six children and seven grandchildren: Alan Gilbertson (Anna Butz); Chad (Helen) Gilbertson; Dan (Jackie) Gilbertson and their children Justin and Charles; Vickie (Craig) Pulsifer and their children Kavan, Colton and Ryann; Crystal Gilbertson (Damien Ferbey); Sarah Gilbertson and her children Kiya and Rylie; one brother Clarence Gilbertson; two sisters, Joan (Len) Bateman and Connie (Jamie) McClure as well as five nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Kathleen and Clifford Gilbertson and by his in-laws Pete and Nellie Drschwiski, sister-in-law Evelyn and one niece Candace. Wayne was a mechanic by trade and operated his own irrigation sales and service business in Bow Island for over 40 years. He was passionate about his stamp collection and airplanes. He was a member of the Commemorative Air Force and a supporter of the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton. Wayne and Diane frequented air shows all over North America and Wayne loved to read and talk about WWII planes. Wayne was also involved with several community service organizations and would often joke about "always being 'in season' " since he was a Lion, an Elk and a Moose. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Masks are mandatory. A private family service will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mac deWaal officiating. The funeral service will be live streamed, and family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to watch the service by searching for the Pattison Funeral Home Youtube page. The video will go live shortly before service time and will remain on the youtube page for future viewing. Interment will follow in the Bow Island Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Wayne with a donation, may do so to World Vision, the Lions Foundation of Canada or the Bomber Command Museum Expansion Project. Diane and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. He was a District Governor with Alberta Lions just before I became one in Saskatchewan and he was a role model for me. He got things done!
He was always a friend whether we met in Bow Island, in Richmound or at a Lions event in Halifax. He was so proud to show me his copy of the WWII painting of two planes plus the autographs of both pilots and the painter. We'll miss him; he was a good one!

Message from Janet Popel November 27, 2021
Diane and family;
I was saddened to learn of Wayne's passing. I have many memories of him in the little shop where he and his Dad could fix or had parts for anything. I also remember his war plane paintings and how proud he was to have them displayed in the Legion. He always seemed so gruff but underneath was the twinkle in his eyes. I'm sure you will all miss him greatly and hope the happy memories will comfort you.

Today was a hard day for your family. Thought of you often. We hope you got a chance to share your memories with each other as you were together as a family. We, too, enjoyed him proudly showing us his vast collection of photos on one of our visits.
