He leaves to cherish his memory to nine children, Anya (Dan) Popham, Vasiliy Shagin, Victor (Lilia) Shagin, Maria (Mikael) Hawee, Elijah (Marina) Shagin, Elizabeth (Aaron) Dittrich, Luba (Bram) Krol, Ivan Shagin, and Michael (Micheleen) Shagin; 16 grandchildren, Victoria Shagin, Immanuel and Shalom Hawee, Gideon and Abigail Shagin, Linus and Julius Dittrich, Hadessa, Liviya, Yoshua and Toviya Krol, Ezekiel, Jacob, Sophia, Olivia and Quinn Shagin; and 3 siblings: Vera Katalnikova and Nadezhda Rossoshanskaya in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA and Anatoliy Shagin, in Izmail, Ukraine as well as many nieces and nephews who love him dearly in USA and Ukraine. He was predeceased by his wife, Nadia Shagin on February 16, 2021; one son, Paul (2015); his sister Lyubov Polzuk in Izmail, Ukraine and his parents, Anna Michailovna (maiden) Timofeeva and Victor Ivanovich Shagin.

Vladimir was born in Ust' Kamenogorsk in the former USSR. He received a diploma in mechanical engineering in Frunze, Kyrgyz USSR. Later, in 1978 as the family moved to Ukraine, he worked as an engineer providing for his family and built a house for the family. He also served (volunteered) as a pastor of a Baptist Church in the city of Izmail, Odessa region. Preaching the gospel and leading the church brought him great joy. He often reflected on those years as the best time of his life. In 1990, when the family immigrated to Canada, Vladimir worked as a personal care aid at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital until he retired. He enjoyed building houses and playing chess as a hobby.

Our dear Papa Vladimir, we, your children thank you for everything you taught and gave us. Thank you for the joy and humor you brought us. You are a great Gift God blessed us with here on earth. You are forever in our hearts. We miss you, but we trust that we will see you again at the feet of Jesus.

I remember Vladimir Shagin as a good pastor, who preached with a lot of insight and often amazed his listeners by reciting the big portions of the Bible by heart. He was humble, smart and optmistic. He is in heaven now and I am thankful for the impact he had on me.
