Dale Lawrence passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the age of 88 years, beloved husband of Vera Lawrence of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory four children, Brenda (Darrell) Seitz, Patrick (Gail) Lawrence, Bonnie (Rick) Hanson and Michael (Linda) Lawrence; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Derek Seitz (Marlon, Milica); Dean (Robin) Seitz (Dawson, Danica); Christopher (Krista) Lawrence; Sarah (Dustin) Theberge (Amy, Charlie); Dana (Bridgette) Hanson (Farrah, Vaughn); Tia Hanson; and Christopher and Sarah’s mother Susan Lawrence. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Victor Lawrence, one granddaughter Coralee Lawrence, his brother Bryan and sister Marion. Dad was very proud of his career as a firefighter. His peers always held a special place in his heart. He was a lifelong, avid swimmer and held numerous records throughout his competitive years. He loved hunting, fishing, playing darts and being outdoors. He was proud of his Metis heritage, but what he was most proud of was all of his grandchildren. We will miss his sense of humor, his jokes and his booming laughter. We love you and will miss you dad!

Message from Hassett Family May 01, 2021
Dearest Vera,
Our deepest condolences at the passing of Dale, your beloved husband. Dale had a special place in the heart of each of the Hassett kids and our parents, Noel and Therese.

For the kids, from the day we moved in next to you on Second Street, S.W., Dale was larger than life, quick to laugh, the first to extend a helping hand and the first to turn a blind eye when yet another window of your house was broken by a puck, tennis ball, baseball or any number of projectiles, depending on the season, that came from the Hassett house. If memory serves, the Lawrence kids may have been party to some of the damage sustained by your house and I am sure that Dale knew this too. Each of the Hassett kids has their “Mr. Lawrence” stories, all of which reinforce his love for each of us and the joy that he had for all children.

For Mom and Dad, you and Dale were their dearest friends, no one was ever closer to them than the two of you. Dale brought out the best in Dad, and brought him away from the pressures of everyday life, juggling a medical practice and family, whether it was going canoeing, camping, hunting or inviting him to climb through the hole in the fence to have a drink. Dale was a great man and Dad’s dearest, most steadfast friend. I am sure that Dale and Dad are together again and happily rekindling their friendship.

We stand grief-stricken with you, Brenda, Pat, Bonnie and Michael and their families, the world seems diminished without Dale in it but his legacy of laughter, kindness and fidelity to friends lives on through you, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his former neighbors of 5 - 2nd Street SW.

Deepest sympathies,
Edmond, Mark, Paul, Mary Lu, Denis, Ruth, David, Matthew and Michael Hassett

Dearest Vera, Brenda, Patrick, Bonnie, and Michael: Trevor and I share your sorrow over Dale's passing. He was a larger-than-life figure who adored and was fiercely protective of you, his family, and you will miss him greatly. Dale was my brother-in-law and my friend, whom I could talk to about almost anything, and often did! We all appreciated his ultra-sharp intellect, his sense of humour that left us all howling with laughter, his ability to tell a story like no one else could, and his strong connection to nature. We will not soon see his like again. Let's be comforted and find peace knowing that he has gone to his Happy Hunting Ground. Lots of love and condolences, Jacquie and Trevor

Dale (The "Chief") Lawrence

Little .known facts that I'd like to share. The Lawrence family (and my high school friends Brenda & Patrick) have been part of our family before I was born.

Vera & Dale (Mr. & Mrs Lawrence to me) shared that my mother & father double dated with them. Attending dances, playing cards, and recreating together before I was an "Idea".

In high school I met Brenda & Patrick as classmates (Patrick on the Football Team) graduating together. Coaching Brenda & Darell's sons football locally.

Throughout my life/career Dale appeared at the swimming pool, in the weight room, and in the community. Offering me his guidance and support in my community efforts.

When my father passed away in 1988 Dale and I cried at my loss as well as Dale's loss. Sharing his friendship with my father long before my mother and father meeting.

Seeing Vera and Dale in the mall food court gave me a feeling of being family as Dale still was swimming and Vera was pushing him to quit
BS- ing with me so she could get the shopping done.

And finally I was so enlightened when Dale (The "Chief ") was featured on the local community television station. Highlighting his journey living in Medicine Hat, Navy career, and Firefighting events.

Thank you Dale for being my friend and watching over me when my father passed. I am proud to have known you. Praying for you Vera
(Mrs.Lawrence) .

Love you all.

We remember your family well and your dad mostly by his HUGE smile. He was always a little bit famous to us in our second street neighbourhood as he was the only fire fighter we knew! Our condolences.
