In memory of
Bette Frisch
December 25, 1928 - March 17, 2021 - Age 92

It is with great sadness the family of Bette Frisch announce her passing on March 17th, 2021. She is remembered fondly by her daughter, Darlene (Paul) Foster, her sons, Lorne (Nahn) Frisch and Darcy Frisch, her grandson Todd (Krista) Glock, her granddaughters Marcelle Glock and Monica Frisch, her great-grandchildren, Aleasha, Amanda (Jeff), Taylor and Jesse Glock, Austin Frisch, Emily and Khloe Ewert, and great-great-granddaughters, Devin Casamayor and Emma Gorko, sisters Peggy (Tony) Westerhoud and Donna (Loren) Cluff, brother Eldon (Marie) Mehrer and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Herb Frisch, her son Timothy Frisch, her parents John and Lydia Mehrer, and her sisters Ella Watson and Cecilia DeHeer. Betty (Bette) Agnes Mehrer was born December 25th, 1928 at Hilda, Alberta, the oldest of six children. She attended school at Echodale, Chelsea and Hilda and was a good student. She married the love of her life, Herb Frisch on October 2, 1947. They were married for 59 years until his passing in 2007. Family was everything for Bette as she devoted her life to looking after everyone. She was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress and gardener. Everyone loved her kuchen and perogies. Although her traditional German food was delicious, she was not afraid to try new dishes. Her Christmas dinners are legendary. She worked hard on the farm, milking cows, feeding pigs and chickens, making her own butter and bread and tending a large vegetable garden. Her strong faith sustained her throughout her life. She was an active member of the United Church of Canada at Irvine and Westminster United in Medicine Hat. She taught Sunday school, was a CGIT leader and belonged to the UCW for many years. A sweet and kind woman who will be missed by many. May she fly with the angels. The family would like to thank the staff at ValleyView AgeCare for their kindness and compassion in looking after Bette in her final years. A private family graveside service will take place at Hillside Cemetery on Saturday, March 20, 2021. Darlene, Lorne, & Darcy and your families.
Aunts Bette was a beautiful, caring lady that will be missed by all. I will always remember the many years we would visit. It seemed like every Sunday we were there to visit. Heaven definitely did gain another angel. Uncle Herb I’m sure was waiting with open arms to have many more dances and teasing that had with all of us.

Thinking of you all

So sorry to hear about Bette’s passing. Our family visited the Frisch’s farm many times when I was a child and my brother Bill and I would stay a few days each summer. Bette and Herb were always welcoming and hospitable. Being able to experience a mixed farming operation and seeing how Bette and Herb embraced this lifestyle of hard work was a positive influence. Bette was always friendly and always answered her younger cousins’ questions about the farm. Condolences to Darlene, Lorne, Darcy, and their families and to all other family and friends.

Bette - Small but mighty...she moved with quick, efficient steps in the kitchen, a tea towel over one shoulder while scraping the cake batter from mixing bowl to baking pan - another coffee cake ready to bake! Herb and Bette's home was home for so many of us! She welcomed all of us! Always fun and laughter, warmth and love. That short 35 minute drive out for just the day or a three-night sleep over! Or those gatherings in Elkwater for a day-long picnic. Or visits to our house after getting grocery - the ice cream was always brought in to the freezer so they could stay for supper! Oh silly memories, but they mean so much! So very sorry for your loss - Darlene, Lorne, Darcy - and to your families, and to all my cousins too - she was extra-special to us all. The last few years, for me - a visit with Bette always gave me a feeling of closeness to my mom...a sweet memory of the two of them, sitting side-by-side, heads together talking and then heads up and laughter...she is now with Herb and Tim again - what a reunion!
