1978 ~ Mike Engel ~ 2020
The family of Mike Engel are sad to announce his passing on Friday July 24, 2020 at the age of 41 years. He was the much loved son of Dale and Linda Engel, brother to Jen (Scott) Nadeau and uncle to Josh and Ember Nadeau. Also left to miss him are many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Born in Regina Sask, Mike moved to Medicine Hat in 1981 with his parents and baby sister. Mike was an avid hockey fan and player, even as a very young child he enjoyed watching his dad play hockey. During his school years he played a lot of hockey and made lifelong friends through the sport. He enjoyed the outdoors, hot summer days, surfing, bike riding, swimming, motocross, golfing, fishing, slow pitch, always had a frisbee in his truck, and loved snowboarding on many mountain ranges. After high school Mike worked at various jobs in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. He loved to renovate and between him and his dad they could reno anything. He once told his Mom that there wasn’t anything that he and his dad can’t do to renovate their house. And that was proved to be true many times. Mike also moved to BC where he loved the west coast life for about 8 years. There he also went on to get his Red Seal carpentry ticket proving that his talent was real. Mike had a real love for cats, his favorite little buddy, Zane had many adventures with Mike, often flying many miles with him on Westjet, travelling back and forth to BC. Because of his heart for missions he spent time in Africa helping with a church renovation and also went to Guatemala to work in an orphanage. The children he met and helped there forever have a piece of his heart. A definite highlight of Mikes life was his visit to the Holy land in 2017. Walking where Jesus walked impacted his life. Mike will be forever missed and is deeply loved by many. He saw the beauty in nature and was able to capture that in pictures. His heart for others was genuine, with the ability to make people feel included and valued. Mike’s faith and belief in God carried him through many hard times and when God told him it was time to go, he went to his eternal home. There he was welcomed by his grandparents who he loved so deeply. We miss you Mike, you are part of us forever. Rest in the arms of Jesus.
