In memory of
Bengt 'Ben' Ake Kristiansson
October 08, 1943 - May 17, 2018 - Age 74

Bengt “Ben” Ake Kristiansson passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the age of 74 years, beloved husband of Judy Kristiansson of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Karlene (Steve) Algra and their children, Miles, Callum, Malcolm, Katharine and Myra; Kendra (Bradley) Noel and their children Annika, Abigail, Tyler; one brother Yngve (Else-Britt) Kristiansson; one sister, Kerstin (Christer) Hultberg; brothers-in-law, Carl Nelson, Lawrence Kraeker, Doug (Gerri) Kraeker and Barry (Shawna) Kraeker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Rikard and Astrid Kristiansson; one brother Tage (Dagmar) Kristiansson; two sisters, Lisa (Holger) Blum and Ann Marie (Erik) Andersson, and two sisters-in-law, Mary Nelson and Gloria Kraeker. Ben was born in Uddevalla, Sweden on October 8, 1943, one of six children. He decided to immigrate to Canada in 1967, moving at first to central Alberta to be near his family, but eventually moving to Edmonton where he worked at the Misercordia hospital. He met Judy on the picket line in 1975 and they were married in September of that year. In 1978, with their one year old daughter, Karlene, they moved to Medicine Hat. Their second daughter Kendra was born in 1980. Ben and Judy were active in the church they attended and at Cornerstone Christian School, being both in volunteer and paid positions. Ben was a gifted health care worker, full of compassion for those he cared for and worked with. He worked for 28 years as an LPN, as the ‘token male’ on 5 West at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Even after retirement, he still enjoyed meeting and talking to former colleagues and patients and was always good for a story from his days of working at the hospital. Ben enjoyed travelling and would take his siblings on road trips around the country when they visited from Sweden. His eight grandchildren were a constant source of amazement to him. Ben suffered from various health issues in his last years and as his family, we are comforted by the fact that he has now moved to heaven to be with Jesus, where there are no more tears and no more pain. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Following the interment at Hillside Cemetery, the funeral service will be held in the Crossroads Church (1340 22nd Street SE) on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors Dave Cartwright and Seth Maier officiating. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to Mercy Ships, Unit 5, 3318 Oak Street, Victoria, British Columbia, V8X 1R1.
