Hilda Johnson (Seefried) of Medicine Hat passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at the age of 90 years, beloved wife of the late Don Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Lenora Masters of Colorado, and Les (Michele) of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren, Rob (Lauren) Masters of Florida, Jim (Lauren) Masters of Colorado, Adele (Jon) Hider, Chad (Jessica) Johnson of Medicine Hat, and Naomi Johnson of Windsor; five great grandchildren, Eve and Gustus Hider, Jack and Sadie Masters of Colorado, and Charlotte Masters of Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Mary Seefried, who died shortly after her birth; father John Seefried, and her step-mother Pauline Seefried, her beloved husband Don on March 11, 1998, a baby brother Theodore, and three sisters, Ida, Olinda and Molly. Hilda was born in Manyberries on July 16, 1927. Hilda received her education in a small country school house, a three mile trek from the family farm. During the winters when it was too risky to walk to class, she lived with the teacher. In exchange for room and board she was responsible to rise early and build a fire in the iron stove, and to clean the classroom each day. She was also required to help her father and step-mother the rest of the year with the farm chores as her brother had died young and her older sisters had each married and moved away. When she was 18, she was invited to spend the summer with friends in Redcliff. She was hired by Dominion Glass and there she met the love of her life, Don. She married Don at St. Ambrose Anglican Church in Medicine Hat on May 11, 1947. Hilda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who deeply loved her family. She will be fondly remembered for her wonderful hospitality. Her home was a sanctuary where all who entered would be sure to find a welcoming smile and hug, nourishing food and lots of laughter. Hilda will forever be immortalized in our memories as a beautiful woman in every sense of the word. We rejoice with her that her suffering is over and she is home and reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her. A memorial celebration service for Hilda will be held in the summer of 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Redcliff Anglican Church or local Alzheimer Chapter.
