Andrea Dawn Gehring-Downie of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at the age of 56 years. She is fondly remembered by her mother, Beverly Downie (Ken Forbes); three brothers, Charles (Angele) Downie, Fraser Downie (Eileen Schmidt), Robert (Michele Meier) Downie; four nephews, Clayton, Wyatt, Dawson, Luke and her niece, Grace. She was predeceased by her father, Charles (Chuck) Gehring in 1962 and her adopted father, James Downie in 2005. In 1961, Andrea was born in Medicine Hat where she went to school, worked and was married. She was raised on a local farm, loved horses and the outdoors. At a young age of 24 years, Andrea was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She took this more as a challenge than a hardship and fought bravely through the rest of her life as it gradually took its toll. She was voted as Medicine Hat’s “MS Person of the Year” from the example she set. Andrea worked as a surveyor, dark room technician and daycare kitchen supervisor in Medicine Hat until she was no longer able to work. She was always able to light up a room with her smile, humor and good nature. Andrea was adored by her family and friends for the positive example she set throughout her life. She taught us all how to live our lives to the fullest. A special thank you to Sunnyside Care Center and all the staff who cared for Andrea since her move there in 2005. Thank you to the team of doctors and friends who cared for and visited Andy. The funeral service will be held at Wuerfel Auditorium, South Country Village, (1720 Bell Street SW) on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
