Sorry to hear of your loss. Howard and I were best of friends as we grew up on the farm. We had many pool games at his place near Golden Prairie as youngsters and went to school together. I boarded at their place while I attended school at Bitter Lake during the winter months. Many good memories and heartfelt sorrow at your loss.

Message from HARVEY WIDMER December 30, 2021
Although Howard and I are first cousins, we never stayed in touch with each other over the years. Seems that we get so involved in our immediate families. I do however have great memories of spending time with Howard in our early teens when I would spend some of my summer holidays in Golden Prairie. My wife and I hope, Darlene, that you will find peace in the days following this sad time. Harvey and Donna Widmer

Darlene and Family

We were sorry to hear of Howard's passing.

My biggest regret is I didn't get to know him better and spend more time with him through the years. Although we were first cousins and raised in the same little town of Golden Prairie, Howard was 2 years older than me and when you're a teenager in school, 2 years is immense. I spent much more time with Lynn who was my age. When I left home at nineteen I saw even less of Howard. But on occasion, when Mardelle and I saw you and Howard dance, we admired you guys set the floor on fire with the polka.

I am so grateful that my brother Jim, sister Lee and I had a chance to see Howard at the beginning of December, only 3 weeks ago. It was good to meet with you and Howard on more than one occasion in Masterpiece to talk about old times. Like how envious I was of Howard when he had a flat head Ford V8 car while I was running around in a 36 HP Volkswagen. Or us chatting about his farm machinery, his grain trucks, etc. And even though you could see he was struggling healthwise, the conversation was joyful, and he still had that little impish smile - a sincere smile - a smile I'll never forget,

He was a good man Darlene - and I know you and family will miss him dearly.

"Like a bird singing in the rain, let grateful memories survive in a time of sorrow.” Robert Louis Stevenson.

Howard will never be forgotten.

Our condolences for your loss
Bob, Mardelle, Jim & Lee
