In memory of
Ralph Schnieder
March 24, 1952 - March 04, 2021 - Age 68

Ralph Schnieder, loving husband, father, son, grandfather, friend and businessman passed away peacefully at the age of 68 years. Ralph was born and raised in Brooks, Alberta. His life long passion for sports began at a young age. Known to many as Bulldog and Hoover, Ralph thrived at the hockey rink and on the fastball field. He completed his business education at SAIT. Ralph and Patty were married in 1974 and welcomed their children, Jason and Stephanie. Even though he enjoyed owning Plaza Sports, his true passion was in agriculture, developing a respected expertise in leafcutter bees. Ralph was fiercely proud and protective of his family. He was fun loving and always generous. He met every opportunity with a strong work ethic. He had a respectful way of teaching others. Travelling was a joy for both Ralph and Patty. His greatest blessings were watching his grandsons play sports, learn to ride a bike, catch their first fish, float the river, ski Big Mountain, play 18 holes and travel together to sunny destinations. He was predeceased by his mother Margaret (Jack) Dench, brother Don Schnieder, step mother Francie Schnieder, father-in-law John (Esther) Wittig, mother-in-law Mary (Paul) Fruit.

Ralph is loving cherished and remembered by his wife Patty, son Jason (Sam/Cheryl Griffin), daughter Stephanie (Mike) Hauck, grandsons Brandon and Zachery Hauck, father Walter Schnieder, sister Bev Tedford, half brother Cory (Jane) Schnieder, brothers-in-law Rod (Jan) Wittig and Eric (Kathleen) Wittig, sister-in-law Sharon (Paul) Dyck, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends Bob and Arlene Utsurogi.

Our heartfelt thankfulness to our Link Church family for your faithful prayers and your compassionate acts of love and kindness.

Honour Ralph’s memory by sharing your stories with one another

The sad news just arrived today which left me in disbelief. Ralph was a neighbour, a teammate and most importantly a friend. So many memories even though it’s been over 25 yrs. since I left Brooks. Ralph introduced the fellas to this new fangled “skateboard” years ago in Plaza Sports. First try and I was on my backside. That was my first and last attempt, ever. Ralph said, “these are gonna be big” all the while with that Ralphie smile and twinkle in his eye. What a great hockey player. Teammates on those old Blackhawk teams. Great stick handler but I remember him most for going toe-to-toe with a fella that was 6’4” and he at least got a draw. Fastball? “Hoover” played a lot of 3rd. for the Hi-waymen and my most vivid memory is him ripping a single down the line in the bottom of the 7th. as we moved on to win another championship in the Hat. And family? To you Patty, Jason & Stephanie my deepest condolences. You were all one of those families you never forget. So warm and caring. I know you have so many positive memories of your husband and dad. Draw on them to get you through this tough time. My thoughts are with you.

It was unexpected when I heard about Ralph's passing. I remember many enjoyable visits in the shop brainstorming ideas for building leafcutter bee equipment and talking about alfalfa seed agronomy. His enthusiasm was encouraging and he usually left me with renewed ambition. Ralph was always kind and generous to me. I'm sorry for your loss.
